Ringway Carbon Baselining

Project Description

Ringway Carbon Baselining was a strategic initiative aimed at quantifying and analysing the carbon footprint of highway operations across a Ringway Infrastructure Services (RIS) contract, supporting its goal to become carbon neutral by 2030 and contribute to a net zero emissions county by 2050. The project focused on evaluating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from various activities, including fuel combustion, vehicle operations, energy usage, water consumption, and waste generation. The objective was to establish a carbon baseline and identify opportunities for reducing emissions in line with sustainability goals, providing the foundation for a carbon reduction strategy.

Work Undertaken

  • Defining Approach – Establishing methodology, control boundaries, and key data points.
  • Gap Analysis – Identifying missing data across Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.
  • Data Collection & Verification.
  • Emissions intensity ratios generated for benchmarking and comparison.
  • Developed a Carbon Data Capture Procedure to standardise data collection.
  • Proposed enhanced reporting and analysis.
  • Baseline Calculation.

Benefits to the Client

  • Cost savings through more efficient energy and resource use.
  • Strategic carbon reduction planning, ensuring RIS meets its long-term commitments.
  • Sustainability Leadership: Demonstrates commitment to carbon reduction, enhancing reputation and stakeholder confidence.
