Project Description
The Kirklees Carbon Footprint – Scope 1 and 2 Summary Report was comissioned to assess the carbon emissions from Kirklees Highway Maintenance Operations. The project aimed to quantify greenhouse gas emissions from fuel use, company vehicles, and energy consumption in depots and offices. The baseline year for the study was 2018/19, with a comparison to 2019/20. The ultimate goal was to identify areas for emission reduction and sustainability improvements.
Work Undertaken

Benefits to the Client
- Informed Decision-Making: Kirklees Council can now strategically target emissions reductions based on accurate data.
- Cost Savings Potential: Improved fuel efficiency and energy savings could lead to lower operational costs.
- Sustainability Leadership: The project reinforces Kirklees’ commitment to environmental responsibility and climate action.
- Foundation for Future Reductions: The study sets the stage for a carbon reduction plan and further policy development.
Now forming part of a wider sustainability strategy, the carbon footprint work carried out by Driven was a practical insight into what we can feasibly achieve for a range of investment options. As is typical with Driven outputs, the report is clear, pragmatic and shows a real depth of understanding – not just about carbon management but the whole highways asset management environment.
